Dr. Vijayakumar Mayakrishnan holds a Ph.D. in Biochemistry from Bharathiar University, India (2007-2010), where his research focused on cardiovascular disease and drug development. During his doctoral studies, he developed skills in animal handling (mice and rats), cell culture, protein purification, and expression. He is proficient in project management, designing and executing experiments, and troubleshooting. Prior to his Ph.D., he completed an MSc. in Biochemistry from Bharathidasan University, India (2003-2005), with research in hepatotoxicity, cancer, and drug development. He also gained expertise in animal handling, project management, experiment design, and troubleshooting. Dr. Mayakrishnan’s academic journey began with a BSc. in Biochemistry from Bharathidasan University, India (2000-2003).

Research Experience:

Dr. Vijayakumar Mayakrishnan has an extensive research background as a Senior Postdoctoral Researcher in the Department of Bioscience & Biotechnology at Sejong University, Korea (Apr 2022 – Aug 2022). His work focused on an integrated computational approach to identify differentially expressed genes and enriched signaling pathways associated with human skeletal muscle and adipose tissue in type 2 diabetes individuals. He developed skills in bioinformatics tools such as STRING, GO, and KEGG analysis, and published one paper in an international, peer-reviewed journal while co-authoring two journal articles. Prior to this, Dr. Mayakrishnan worked as a Postdoctoral Researcher at the Department of Forage & Grassland Science, NIAS, RDA, Korea (Nov 2020 – Apr 2021), where he contributed to a team investigating the beneficial effects of natural products and probiotic microorganisms against cancer, cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, and obesity. He developed skills in protein biology, RNA biology, and nanomedicine, and authored two papers in an international, peer-reviewed journal while co-authoring three journal articles.

Teaching Experience:

Dr. Vijayakumar Mayakrishnan served as a Teaching Assistant Lecturer at the Department of Biochemistry, IBS, University of Malaya, Malaysia, from Dec 2011 to Nov 2013. He was selected by the Chancellor of the University to teach the biochemistry subject for two academic years. During this time, he also served as a PhD Supervisor for Mycology Research PhD Rotations and supervised a Research Technician in Phytochemistry.
