Assistant Professor Dr. Muhammad Ali Khan has an extensive educational background and a remarkable academic career in the field of mechanical and manufacturing engineering. He earned his Doctor of Philosophy in Design & Manufacturing Engineering from the School of Mechanical & Manufacturing Engineering at NUST, where he conducted significant research on the machinability of titanium alloys under cryogenic conditions, graduating with a perfect CGPA of 4.00/4.00 in December 2020.

Prior to his doctoral studies, Dr. Khan completed his Master of Science in Manufacturing Engineering & Management in August 2016. His passion for engineering began with his Bachelor of Engineering in Mechanical Engineering from the College of E&ME, NUST, which he completed in May 2005. His bachelor’s studies included noteworthy theses on the corrosion protection of ASTM A-516 through surface treatment and passivation, achieving a CGPA of 3.80/4.00, and the design and fabrication of a recumbent vehicle, with a CGPA of 3.54/4.00.

Dr. Khan’s academic pursuits have been marked by a consistent dedication to advancing the field of manufacturing engineering, focusing on innovative techniques and materials to enhance industrial processes. His contributions to the study of titanium alloys and surface treatment methods underscore his expertise and commitment to research excellence.

Experience 🏫

Assistant Professor Dr. Muhammad Ali Khan has held various academic positions, contributing significantly to education and research in the field of mechanical and manufacturing engineering. From January 2021 to July 2024, he served as an Assistant Professor at the College of E&ME, NUST. In this role, Dr. Khan evaluated and revised lesson plans and course content to ensure they met the highest educational standards. He implemented instructional technologies to enhance the learning experience, supervised both undergraduate and postgraduate students, and made substantial contributions to research and development.

Before his tenure as an Assistant Professor, Dr. Khan was a Lecturer at the College of E&ME, NUST, from January 2013 to July 2014. During this period, he created dynamic learning environments, supervised student research, and developed innovative research products. His dedication to fostering a stimulating academic atmosphere greatly benefited his students and colleagues.

Dr. Khan’s teaching career began at the Construction Technology Training Institute, where he worked as a Lecturer from January 2010 to December 2012. Here, he created materials and exercises to illustrate the application of course concepts and applied innovative teaching methods to engage students effectively.

His primary research interest lies in machining, where he explores advanced techniques to enhance the efficiency and precision of material removal processes. He is particularly focused on the machinability of challenging materials, such as titanium alloys, under various conditions.

In addition to machining, Dr. Khan is deeply involved in manufacturing system design. He aims to innovate and improve the integration of machinery, materials, and methods to develop efficient and sustainable manufacturing processes. His work in this area seeks to streamline production, reduce waste, and enhance overall system performance.

Dr. Khan is also proficient in optimization techniques, which he applies to various aspects of manufacturing and engineering.
