Prof. Anita Lakhani has an impressive track record in academic supervision and research project management. She has successfully supervised five Ph.D. students and is currently supervising six more. Additionally, she has guided five M.Phil students to completion and supervised forty M.Sc. dissertations. Her expertise in research is evident from her extensive work on federally funded projects. She has completed nine such projects with a total financial outlay of Rs 167.15 lacs. Currently, she is leading three ongoing projects with a combined worth of Rs 499.3 lacs. Prof. Lakhani earned her Ph.D. in 1992, focusing on “Studies on Chemistry of Dry, Wet & Bulk Deposition at Agra,” demonstrating her long-standing commitment to environmental research and atmospheric sciences.

Her research interests encompass aerosols, trace gases, polyaromatic hydrocarbons, metal speciation in aerosols, and the reactive oxygen species generation potential of aerosols. Prof. Anita Lakhani has received several prestigious awards and recognitions for her significant contributions to environmental research and chemistry. In 2023, she was awarded the Best Paper Award at the National System Conferences for her paper titled “The Impact of Biomass Burning on the Oxidative Potential of PM2.5 at Dayalbagh Agra.” Similarly, in 2022, she received another Best Paper Award at the National System Conferences for her paper titled “Comparative Analysis of Fine Particulate Matter (PM2.5) Over the Indo-Gangetic Plain (IGP) in the Era of Covid-19: Normal to the New Normal.” In recognition of her environmental leadership, Prof. Lakhani was conferred the prestigious “Environmentalist of the Year -2014” award by the Foundation of Science and Environment, Kolkata, at the International Conference on Environment and Ecology at Scientific and Environment Research Institute, Science City, Kolkata, in March 2015. She has also played a pivotal role as a co-convener in organizing impactful seminars on environmental chemistry, such as the “One day Seminar on Recent Trends of Trace Gases and Aerosol: Their Impact on Climate” in 2015 and the “One day Seminar on Recent trends in Environmental Chemistry” in 2011, both organized by the Department of Chemistry, Dayalbagh Educational Institute, Dayalbagh, Agra.
