Mr. SURESH KUMAR is currently pursuing a Ph.D. in Environmental Sciences at Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar University (A Central University) since October 13, 2017. His thesis, titled “Assessment and chemical characterization of atmospheric particulate matter in Lucknow city, Uttar Pradesh, India,” is supervised by Prof. Shiv Kumar Dwivedi, Former Head of the Department of Environmental Sciences and Dean of the School for Earth & Environmental Sciences at the university. He successfully submitted his thesis to the department on April 12, 2023, and is now preparing for the oral examination for the award of the doctoral degree. Mr. KUMAR holds a Master of Science in Environmental Sciences (2013-2015) from Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar University, with a dissertation on the diurnal variation in morphology and elemental composition of particulate matter in rural and urban areas of Lucknow, supervised by Dr. Narendra Kumar, Assistant Professor in the Department of Environmental Science. He completed his Bachelor of Science in Zoology & Botany (2010-2012) from Maharani Lal Kunwari PG College, affiliated with Dr. Ram Manohar Lohia Avadh University, Faizabad, Uttar Pradesh. Job Experience as Air Quality Associate 🏢

Worked at Kumud Enviro & Infrastructure Consultancy, Lucknow from June 2015 to September 2017. Responsibilities included air quality monitoring, data analysis, atmospheric pollution modeling, report writing, and stakeholder communication.

Doctoral Work Overview 🎓

Ph.D. thesis focused on air quality variation during 2019 and 2020 in Lucknow, India, based on atmospheric particulate matter (PM10 & PM2.5) monitoring. Examined physico-chemical aspects of PMs and their health risks. Used the AirQ+ model for health risk analysis and EPA framework-model for heavy metal health risk assessments. Conducted source characterization of particulate matter using enrichment factors of heavy metals and the PMF model (Version 5.0) for source apportionment.

Prof. Anita Lakhani has an impressive track record in academic supervision and research project management. She has successfully supervised five Ph.D. students and is currently supervising six more. Additionally, she has guided five M.Phil students to completion and supervised forty M.Sc. dissertations. Her expertise in research is evident from her extensive work on federally funded projects. She has completed nine such projects with a total financial outlay of Rs 167.15 lacs. Currently, she is leading three ongoing projects with a combined worth of Rs 499.3 lacs. Prof. Lakhani earned her Ph.D. in 1992, focusing on “Studies on Chemistry of Dry, Wet & Bulk Deposition at Agra,” demonstrating her long-standing commitment to environmental research and atmospheric sciences.

She has also played a pivotal role as a co-convener in organizing impactful seminars on environmental chemistry, such as the “One day Seminar on Recent Trends of Trace Gases and Aerosol: Their Impact on Climate” in 2015 and the “One day Seminar on Recent trends in Environmental Chemistry” in 2011, both organized by the Department of Chemistry, Dayalbagh Educational Institute, Dayalbagh, Agra.
