Dr. Joshua Nwachukwu holds a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Maritime Management Technology from the Federal University of Technology, Owerri (FUTO), awarded in 2024. He earned his Master’s Degree (M.Sc.) in Marine Transportation from FUTO in 2015. His undergraduate studies were completed at the same institution, where he obtained a Bachelor’s Degree (B.Eng.) in Soil and Water Engineering in 2006, graduating with Second Class Honors. Prior to his university education, he completed his Senior Secondary School Certificate (SSCE) at St. Peters Special Science School, Achina, Anambra State, in 2000. He also received his First School Leaving Certificate from Ihe Community School, Enuguagu Achi, Oji River LGA, Enugu State, in 1993. Dr. Nwachukwu’s academic journey reflects a solid foundation in engineering and maritime studies, complemented by his early education.
Professional Experience
Dr. Joshua Nwachukwu has a diverse and extensive professional background in the maritime and logistics sectors. Currently, he serves as a Lecturer in the Department of Transport and Marine Management at Delta State University of Science and Technology, Ozoro, Delta State, a position he has held since June 2023. Prior to this, he was the Operations Manager at Sea Mars Contractors Ltd from June 2017 to May 2023, where he oversaw various operational activities. From February 2016 to May 2017, Dr. Nwachukwu worked as a Marine Cargo Inspection Supervisor at Cenoux Logistics Limited in Lagos. He also held the role of Procurement and Business Development Manager at Jiko Energy Services Limited in Port Harcourt from May 2013 to January 2016. Earlier in his career, he was the Transport and Logistics Manager at Ontrak Nigeria Limited in Lagos from October 2010 to March 2013, and a Purchasing and Marketing Analyst at DKM Ventures Limited from March to October 2008. He began his professional journey in the Engineering Department during his NYSC service at Ipokia Local Government Area, Ogun State, from February 2007 to February 2008.
Research Focus: Maritime and Transport
Dr. Joshua Nwachukwu’s Ph.D. research work, titled “Multi-criteria Decision Model and Relief Material Distribution to Damare IDP Camp, North East Nigeria,” focused on developing a decision model to efficiently distribute relief materials to internally displaced persons in Nigeria. His contributions extend to the design and construction of the CMOS Kenny Cruise Boat, affiliated with the Center for Maritime and Offshore Studies (CMOS) at the Federal University of Petroleum Resources Effurun, Warri, Delta State. This project aimed to enhance maritime studies through practical applications. Additionally, during his undergraduate studies, Dr. Nwachukwu developed a municipal solid waste incinerator, showcasing his capability in addressing environmental challenges through engineering solutions. His MSc thesis, “An Appraisal of Management of Oil Pollution from Maritime Activities in the Nigerian Coastal Waters,” further underscores his commitment to environmental management, focusing on mitigating oil pollution impacts on Nigeria’s coastal waters. These projects highlight his multifaceted expertise in maritime and environmental engineering.
Consultancy and Service
Dr. Joshua Nwachukwu has demonstrated significant expertise as a Research Consultant, notably contributing to the Routine Immunization Program in Lagos State in 2018. This critical initiative, sponsored by USAID, the Clinton Health Access Initiative, HSCL, and the Lagos State Government, underscored his capabilities in health program management and data analysis. In 2017, he served as a Cluster Manager and Facilitator for the Akwa-Ibom State AIDS Indicator Survey (AKAIS), another key project sponsored by USAID and FHI 360, alongside the Akwa-Ibom State Government. His role was pivotal in ensuring accurate data collection and analysis, enhancing the effectiveness of HIV/AIDS intervention programs. Additionally, Dr. Nwachukwu fulfilled his national service obligations through the NYSC Compulsory Service, working in the Engineering Services Department at Ipokia Local Government Area in Ogun State.
