Shanghai Advanced Research Institute, Chinese Academy of Sciences, China
Prof. Dr. Peng Gao is a distinguished Professor and Group Leader at the CAS Key Laboratory of Low-Carbon Conversion Science and Engineering, Shanghai Advanced Research Institute, Chinese Academy of Sciences, and the University of Chinese Academy of Sciences. He earned his Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering and Technology from the University of Chinese Academy of Sciences (2014) and a Bachelor’s degree in the same field from Chongqing Three Gorges University (2009). Prof. Gao’s research primarily focuses on the conversion of carbon-based molecules, including CO2, CO, and CH3OH, into chemicals and fuels through heterogeneous catalysis, with particular emphasis on designing highly efficient catalysts for CO2 hydrogenation to methanol, olefins, and liquid fuels. He has over a decade of academic experience, serving as Assistant Professor (2014–2016), Associate Professor (2016–2019), and Professor (2019–present), leading pioneering research in low-carbon chemical conversion. His work has resulted in more than 80 publications in high-impact journals, including Nature Chemistry, Science Advances, Chem, ACS Catalysis, and Angewandte Chemie International Edition, with over 6,300 citations (H-index 42), alongside 15 Chinese patents and 1 US patent. Prof. Gao has been recognized among the top 1% of highly cited authors in Royal Society of Chemistry journals (2019) and listed as one of the World’s Top 2% Scientists (2021–2024). His contributions have earned him numerous accolades, including the Catalysis Rising Star Award (2021), Shanghai Academic Research Leader (2022), Top Young Talents in Shanghai, and the Shanghai Rising-Star Award (2019). In addition, he actively serves on the editorial boards of Chinese Journal of Catalysis, SCIENCE CHINA Chemistry, and Carbon and Hydrogen, and has received recognition for excellence in peer review from Industrial & Engineering Chemistry Research and Journal of Energy Chemistry. Prof. Gao’s innovative research continues to advance sustainable carbon utilization technologies, bridging fundamental catalysis science and industrial applications, while mentoring the next generation of researchers in low-carbon chemistry and catalysis.
