He also holds a Master of Social Science (2004) in Anthropology from Shahjalal University of Science and Technology, Sylhet, Bangladesh, with a CGPA of 3.80 out of 4.00, and a Bachelor of Social Science (2003) in Anthropology from the same institution, with a CGPA of 3.56 out of 4.00.

Positions:

Dr. Md. Shahgahan Miah has held various academic positions, including Associate Professor in the Department of Anthropology at Shahjalal University of Science and Technology, Sylhet, Bangladesh, from September 28, 2015, to the present. Prior to this, he served as an Assistant Professor in the same department from September 13, 2015, to September 27, 2022. He has also been a guest lecturer at several institutions, including the Faculty of Public Health at Universitas Diponegoro, Indonesia, where he discussed research strategies and challenges related to men’s involvement in maternal and child health and family planning. Dr. Miah has also delivered lectures on culture and behavior related to maternal and child health and the implications for health promotion strategies. Additionally, he has lectured on promoting healthy lifestyle behaviors among university students, drawing lessons from Bangladesh. He has also served as a guest faculty for the Bangladesh Studies Course at the Department of Business Administration, North East University, Sylhet, Bangladesh, from January to May 2016. Dr. Miah began his academic career as a lecturer in the Department of Anthropology at Shahjalal University of Science and Technology, Sylhet, Bangladesh, from October 27, 2013, to October 12, 2015.

Training And Workshop:

In 2020, Dr. Md. Shahgahan Miah participated in a workshop on One Health, highlighting the interconnectedness of human, animal, and environmental health. In 2018, he attended a Systematic Review Workshop at the Center of Excellence in Research on Gender, Sexuality, and Health at the Faculty of Social Science and Humanities, Mahidol University. In 2016, Dr. Miah completed the Professional Development Certificate Program on Public Health & You at the School of Public Health-Bloomington, Indiana University. In 2012, he participated in “The Pathway to Publishing: Literature Reviews” training program at the Training Support Group, ICDDR,B, Mohakhali, Dhaka, Bangladesh, aimed at enhancing skills in publishing scientific literature. Dr. Miah also attended a training session on Reproductive Rights & Violence against Adolescents in 2011 at ICDDR, B, Mohakhali, Dhaka, Bangladesh. Additionally, in 2010, he took part in the National Participatory Situation Assessment to Expand Prevention Services for Men who have Sex with Men (MSM) and Hijra at the Laboratory Sciences Division, ICDDR,B, Mohakhali, Dhaka, Bangladesh. In 2009, Dr. Miah attended a workshop on Social Inclusion organized by Sight Savers International, focusing on Community-Based Rehabilitation (CBR) in the context of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (UNCRPD).

Research Grants:

Dr. Md. Shahgahan Miah has been actively involved in several research projects as a Principal Investigator and Associate Researcher. In 2023, he led a qualitative study titled “Health Challenges and Coping Strategies of Rural-to-Urban Migrant Garment Factory Workers in Bangladesh: A Qualitative Study of Lived Experiences,” funded by the SUST Research Center. In 2022, Dr. Miah conducted another study as the Principal Investigator on “Perceptions and Uses of Herbal Medicines Marketed by Pharmaceutical Manufacturers between Drug Sellers and Customers: Qualitative Study in Sylhet City of Bangladesh,” funded by the SUST Research Center. In 2021, he led a project titled “Medicalization on the C-section Choice of Pregnant Women: A Comparative Analysis between Rural and Urban Settings in Moulavibazar of Bangladesh,” also funded by the SUST Research Center. Additionally, Dr. Miah served as an Associate Researcher on the Impact Study on the Project of Digital Directory for Quick Selection of Proper Pesticides under the Access to Information-II project, Government of Bangladesh, with the final report submitted in 2017.

Dr. Pradhap Dhanasekaran has extensive experience in fieldwork and geological exploration. He has visited several significant geological sites, including Bauxite mines in Kollimalai Hills and Shevaroys Hills in Salem, Neyveli Lignite mines, the Thiruvakkarai wood fossil site, and locations with crystalline limestone. Furthermore, Dr. Dhanasekaran has visited the mineralization shear zone in Krishnagiri and Dharmapuri, and has conducted fieldwork in and around Salem and Namakkal. His fieldwork also extends to the study of Some Proterozoic Rocks of the Cuddapah Basin in Andhra Pradesh, where he has undertaken sedimentary petrology and stratigraphic investigations. This extensive field experience demonstrates his practical knowledge and hands-on approach to geological research and exploration.
