Education

Assist. Prof. Dr. Amani Majeed completed her Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Basra, where she specialized in renewable energy technologies. Her research focused on innovative solutions for sustainable energy sources, including solar power, wind energy, and bioenergy. She developed strong skills in thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, materials science, and applied CAD, FEA, and simulation tools to real-world engineering challenges. Dr. Majeed earned her Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from the same institution, concentrating on fluid flow within petroleum reservoirs. Her research addressed the complexities of fluid dynamics in fractured reservoirs, blending theoretical concepts with practical applications. She has published extensively on this subject and conducted her research at the Nahran Omar laboratories. Additionally, Dr. Majeed has pursued various training courses, including internal training on Vario MICRO Cube in Germany, basic user-level training on 7890B Agilent GC in Dubai, and short courses in Exploration Petroleum Geology, Seismics, and Drilling Techniques in Turkey. She also completed a course in English conversation at the Advance Institute in Basra, Iraq.

Employment

Assist. Prof. Dr. Amani Majeed began her career as a Field Engineer in 2007, overseeing the installation and maintenance of gas pipelines in the Zubair Field in Basra. She ensured that all operations adhered to industry standards and regulations, contributing to the safe and efficient management of infrastructure. Since August 2010, Dr. Majeed has served as a faculty member at the University of Basra, where she is an Assistant Professor specializing in fluid flow dynamics in fractured reservoirs. Her teaching encompasses undergraduate and graduate courses in Petroleum Engineering, including reservoir simulation, drilling engineering, and production technology. She supervises student research projects and fosters interdisciplinary collaboration to enhance curriculum and research. Dr. Majeed is actively involved in industry and academic communities, having served as the Committee Chair for the Middle East and North Africa PetroBowl 2022 Competition, a regional Petrobowl judge, and a Student Chapter Award Judge in 2020. She also participated in the SPE Middle East Region Award Selection Committee in 2019. Since August 2024, Dr. Majeed has been an editorial board member for the Petroleum & Petrochemical Engineering Journal (PPEJ), USA, where she contributes to the advancement of research in her field.

In June 2021, she completed ISO 9001:2015 Awareness training, focusing on quality management principles, the changes and standards introduced by ISO, and how these principles can provide companies with a competitive advantage through process approach and basic process modeling. In 2019, Dr. Majeed was a member of the SPE Middle East Region Award Selection Committee, contributing to the determination of award recipients from eligible applicants. She also served as a judge for the SPE Student Chapter Award in 2020, playing a key role in supporting industry professionals through changing and diverse challenges. In 2022, Dr. Majeed led the SPE Regional PetroBowl® qualifiers, collaborating with SPE International and Regional Directors to organize and conduct regional competitions. She oversaw the selection of teams for the PetroBowl Championship, ensuring adherence to consistent standards across physical and virtual events. From 2018 to 2024, she served as the Faculty Advisor for the University of Basrah’s SPE Chapter, providing crucial guidance and communication between the student chapter, the university, and the sponsoring SPE section. Her role involved helping students develop and implement their goals and programs. Additionally, in December 2022, Dr. Majeed achieved qualification as a Patent Examiner by the Central Organization for Standardization and Quality Control in Baghdad, Iraq, further demonstrating her commitment to advancing her expertise and contributions to the field.
