Dr. Duygu Kirkik has a diverse professional background in research and academia. She currently serves as a Clinical Researcher at Rigicon, Inc in Ronkonkoma, NY, where she is involved in cutting-edge research. Dr. Kirkik also holds positions at Arel University in Turkey, serving as a Lecturer/Assistant Professor in both the Department of Medical Biology and Genetics and the Department of Biomedical Engineering since October 2022. Prior to these roles, she gained valuable experience as a Research Assistant at the University of Health Sciences in Istanbul, Turkey, from February 2017 to February 2023. Dr. Kirkik’s academic journey began at Oxford University, where she worked as a Research Assistant at the Weatherall Institute of Molecular Medicine from June 2013 to September 2014. Her diverse experiences have shaped her into a well-rounded professional with a strong commitment to research and education.

Research Interest:

Dr. Duygu Kirkik has a broad range of research interests spanning various fields including infection, immunology, autoimmunity, microbiota, bioinformatics, urology, penile prosthesis, and incontinence. Her research focuses on understanding the complex interactions between the immune system and infectious agents, as well as the role of microbiota in health and disease. Dr. Kirkik is also interested in the development of bioinformatics tools to analyze large datasets in these areas. Her work in urology includes research on penile prostheses and incontinence, aiming to improve treatment options and outcomes for patients.

Another research article co-authored by Dr. Kirkik investigates the effects of MIR-219-1 gene variants on the development of disease in nonsmall cell lung cancer patients, published in African Health Sciences in 2022. Dr. Duygu Kirkik has achieved significant milestones in her academic and professional career. She was awarded the YÖK/100/2000 PhD Scholarship in Translational Medicine at the University of Health Sciences, Department of Medical Biology, where she pursued her doctoral studies from 2018 to 2022. In 2017, she secured the Third Prize in the Yıldız Teknik TTO & Çalık Holding First Job Entrepreneurship Competition. Dr. Kirkik also obtained a Successful Internship Certificate from Oxford University, Department of Medical Genetics, in 2014. Her academic journey was further enriched by receiving an Erasmus Grant from the European Commission through the Turkish National Agency for the United Kingdom in 2014. Additionally, she was a recipient of the TÜBİTAK 1003 Project Assistant Scholarship and the Fatih University BAP – Project Assistant Scholarship from 2013 to 2015. In 2012, Dr. Kirkik was awarded an Erasmus Grant from the European Commission through the Turkish National Agency for the Czech Republic. These accomplishments reflect her dedication to academic excellence and professional development.
