His dissertation, titled “Role Conflict, Coping Strategy, and Entrepreneurial Success: A Study Among Women Entrepreneurs in Sub-Saharan Africa,” highlights his deep research into the challenges and strategies faced by women entrepreneurs in the region.
Dr. Hundera’s academic journey began with a Master of Philosophy (MPhil) from Maastricht School of Management in 2016, where he concentrated on women entrepreneurship in Sub-Saharan Africa. He also holds an MA in Management of Development from Van Hall Larenstein, part of Wageningen University, where he specialized in social inclusion, gender, and rural livelihood, completed in October 2010.
In addition to his graduate studies, Dr. Hundera obtained a Postgraduate Diploma in Research Methods and Skills from Maastricht School of Management in December 2013. His foundational education includes a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Management from Addis Ababa University, Ethiopia, completed in August 2006.
Dr. Hundera has further enhanced his expertise through various executive education programs. He has completed certifications in business and entrepreneurship from the University of Notre Dame, CAPSTONE project management, and the Mandela Washington Fellowship. Dr. Mulu Berhanu Hundera is currently a Post-Doctoral Researcher at the University of Cologne, Germany, where he is investigating the impact of family support on female entrepreneurship in developing countries. This role allows him to build on his extensive research into women’s entrepreneurial challenges and opportunities.
In addition to his research at the University of Cologne, Dr. Hundera serves as a Trainer in Gender Equality and Women Empowerment at Maastricht University, The Netherlands, since June 2022. In this capacity, he leads training programs designed to advance understanding and implementation of gender equality and empower women across various sectors.
Dr. Hundera’s previous role as an Assistant Professor of Management and Development at Haramaya University, Ethiopia, from 2007 to December 2022, saw him teaching a range of courses, including entrepreneurship, gender analysis, and development strategies. His contributions to education were pivotal in shaping the academic and professional growth of his students in these critical areas.
Moreover, Dr. Hundera has extensive experience as a Gender Expert in various countries including Ethiopia, Bangladesh, and Rwanda.
