Liang Cheng earned his Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry from the Institute of Chemistry, Chinese Academy of Sciences in Beijing, China, from 2004 to 2009. Prior to that, he completed his B.Sc. in Chemistry at Beijing Normal University, also in Beijing, from 2000 to 2004.

Liang Cheng is currently a Professor at the Institute of Chemistry, Chinese Academy of Sciences in Beijing, China, a position he has held since 2021. Prior to this, he served as an Associate Professor at the same institute from 2015 to 2021. He gained valuable international experience as a Postdoctoral Research Scientist at Columbia University in New York, NY, USA, working with Prof. Ronald Breslow from 2011 to 2014. Before his postdoctoral stint, Liang was a Group Leader & Research Scientist at Chemizon Inc. & Centaurus Biopharma Co., Ltd. in Beijing, China, from 2009 to 2011.

Liang Cheng’s research interests include the recognition and functionalization of RNA by small organic molecules, as well as the selective synthesis of biologically active molecules.

Liang Cheng has received several prestigious awards and recognitions for his contributions to the field of chemistry. In 2020, he was awarded the Outstanding Youth Science Foundation by the National Natural Science Foundation of China, as well as the Thieme Chemistry Journals Award. In 2016, he was selected as a finalist for the CIFAR (Canadian Institute for Advanced Research) Azrieli Global Scholars Program. In 2015, he was honored with the Young Elite Scientist Sponsorship Program by the China Association for Science and Technology. In his primary research work, Mr. Rahul Sharma conducted screenings of FDA-approved drugs using computational and biophysical methods against essential enzymes of Mycobacterium tuberculosis. Selected compounds from this screening were then tested for their inhibitory potential on the virulent strain Mtb-H37Rv under both in-vitro and ex-vivo conditions. In his secondary research work, Mr. Sharma focused on immunoinformatics to design a vaccine construct aimed at preventing and treating Mycobacterium tuberculosis infections. This vaccine construct was designed based on the analysis of secretory exosomes antigens of the pathogen, with the goal of developing a preventive therapeutic approach against tuberculosis.
