Assoc. Prof. Dr. Burcu Saner Okan completed her Ph.D. in Materials Science and Engineering at Sabancı University, Turkey, from 2007 to 2011, achieving a GPA of 3.90 out of 4.00. Prior to her doctoral studies, she obtained her Master of Science in Materials Science and Engineering from Sabancı University, Turkey, from 2005 to 2007, with a GPA of 3.28 out of 4.00. She currently serves as the Academic Director at the Sabancı University Integrated Manufacturing Technologies Research and Application Center & Composite Technologies Center of Excellence in Istanbul, Turkey, since March 2022. Additionally, she is an Application and Research Oriented Faculty Member at Sabancı University, focusing on Materials Science and Nanoengineering, and Manufacturing Technologies since 2020.Dr. Saner Okan co-founded NANOGRAFEN Nano Technological Products Chemistry, an R&D company in Teknopark Istanbul, in 2013. Prior to this, she worked as a Researcher and Assistant Professor at the Sabancı University Nanotechnology Research and Application Center from 2012 to 2020. She also served as a Technical Project Manager at NanoTego Nanoteknolojik Malzeme Teknolojileri Arastirma Gelistirme San ve Tic. A.S. in Istanbul from 2011 to 2014. Dr. Saner Okan began her academic career as a Post-Doctoral Research Fellow at the Sabancı University Nanotechnology Research and Application Center from 2011 to 2012.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Burcu Saner Okan’s academic journey includes significant research contributions. Her Ph.D. dissertation, completed at Sabanci University from 2007 to 2011 under the guidance of Prof. Dr. Yuda Yurum, focused on an improved technique for the exfoliation of graphene nanosheets and their utilization in nanocomposites for fuel cell electrodes. During her Master’s studies from 2005 to 2007, also at Sabanci University, she conducted research on the synthesis of biodegradable and biocompatible polymers in supercritical carbon dioxide, as well as the production of fluorinated nanofibers for potential biomedical applications, under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Yusuf Z. Menceloglu. Her undergraduate final project, completed from 2003 to 2005 at Middle East Technical University under the guidance of Prof. Dr. Levent Toppare, involved the immobilization of polyphenol oxidase in a conducting matrix and the determination of phenolics amount in wine using enzyme electrodes. In 2023, she received the Bilim Akademisi Genç Bilim İnsanları Ödül (BAGEP). In 2021, she was honored with the 2nd Mehmet Şuhubi Award by the Technology Development Foundation of Turkey (TTGV). Her accolades also include the second prize in the poster competition for master students at the SPE ACCE 2020 conference, a renowned automotive conference organized by Ford Motor Company and General Motors Company. In 2019, she was awarded the Theodore-von-Kármán-Fellowship at ITA Aachen, Germany. In 2018, she received the Best Poster Presentation Award at the Kordsa-Sabancı University Joint Project, Smart Nanomaterials 2018 Conference in Paris.
