Mahesh Hariharan, Head of the School of Chemistry, Photo catalytic Chemistry, at IISER, Tiravendrum, Kerala. In his Doctorate project, Dr. Nagaraj’s research focused on “Synthesis and studies involving some surfactant cobalt(III) complexes-kinetics of electron transfer in microheterogeneous media, binding interaction with nucleic acids and antitumor properties.” This project was conducted under the guidance of Dr. S. Saul Santini completed his PhD in Chemical Sciences at the University of Florence, Italy, from November 2020 to October 2023. His research involved the development of analytical procedures for the determination of emerging organic compounds, including the analysis of contaminants in fish samples, rodenticides in owl samples, and phthalates in Talitrus saltator samples. He also worked on determining trace elements in cosmetics and assessing their toxic effects on humans. Saul collaborated with the TecnaTox research center at the University of Tarragona on the analysis of microplastics in human and pig intestine samples and monitored microplastic contamination levels in edible mollusks along the Mediterranean coasts. Additionally, he optimized analytical methods for analyzing pesticides in food matrices and participated in environmental monitoring campaigns. Three of his papers are currently under review in international journals.

Work Experience:

Saul Santini has held several positions in the field of education and chemical safety. Since November 2023, he has been working as a Secondary School Teacher at Istituto Superiore A. Checchi, where he teaches Chemical Science and Technology. He is also a Worker Safety Trainer at ITT Marco Polo, providing safety training for students undertaking the PCTO route and assigned a medium risk. Additionally, Saul works as a Chemical Risk Consultant at a chemical materials production company, where he updates the company’s Risk Assessment Document. He also serves as a Risk Assessment Document Auditor for a social cooperative, reviewing their documents across different territorial sectors.

Training:

Saul Santini completed his Master’s Degree in Chemical Sciences at the University of Florence, Italy, from September 2015 to July 2017. His dissertation, titled “Legacy and new persistent organic pollutants in Somniosus Microcephalus from NE Greenland,” earned him a final grade of 110/110 cum laude. Her research focused on the synthesis and characterization of nanostructured metallic oxides and their application in nanocomposites with poly(vinyl alcohol). During this time, she was under the guidance of Edgardo Alfonso Gómez Pineda and received a scholarship from Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior (CAPES). Her work involved techniques such as XRD, SEM, FTIR, TGA, and nanoparticle analysis, contributing to the fields of physical chemistry, nanostructured materials, and polymers and composites for the development of new materials. Prior to her Ph.D., she completed her Master’s in Chemistry at UEM, focusing on the thermal stability of blends of poly(vinyl alcohol) and modified lignin, from 2003 to 2005. She continued her academic journey with a Bachelor’s in Chemistry from UEM in 1999-2002. After her Ph.D., she pursued postdoctoral studies from 2010 to 2011 at UEM, furthering her expertise in physical chemistry, polymers and composites, and nanostructured materials.
