Similarly, in 2019-2020, Dr. Tibebe served as the PI for the UoG Mega project on the Treatment and Characterization of Tannery and Textile Industrial effluents in Amhara regional States, employing the Electrocoagulation Process with Aluminium electrodes. Another completed project, from 2020 to 2021, involved the Detection and Characterization of potential Hormone Disrupting Chemicals in Water and Fish Samples in the Amhara National Regional State Lakes, where Dr. Tibebe again acted as the PI. Currently, Dr. Tibebe is leading an ongoing external project (NABU) focused on the Utilization of Water Hyacinth biomass for organic fertilizer production in the North Eastern Lake Tana area, Ethiopia. Additionally, another ongoing external project (EEFRI) led by Dr. Tibebe investigates the Impacts of external and internal agrochemical loads on Lake Tana Ecosystem for sustainable management. Furthermore, another ongoing external project (NABU) focuses on the utilization of Water Hyacinth for soil enhancement, improved agricultural productivity, carbon sequestration, and sustainable energy production. As a Co-PI from 2018 to 2021, Dr. Tibebe contributed to the Investigation on the quality, post-harvest processing, and production site of coffee in West, Central, and North Gondar Zones, Ethiopia. Dr. Tibebe also served as a Co-PI from 2018 to 2020 for the UoG Mega project, focusing on the Effects of Waste effluent from Gondar Town on the Downstream Community and its impact on Ecological and Limnological properties of Waste Receiver Rivers in the Central Gondar Zone, Amara, Ethiopia.

Education 📚

Saul Santini completed his PhD in Chemical Sciences at the University of Florence, Italy, from November 2020 to October 2023. His research involved the development of analytical procedures for the determination of emerging organic compounds, including the analysis of contaminants in fish samples, rodenticides in owl samples, and phthalates in Talitrus saltator samples. He also worked on determining trace elements in cosmetics and assessing their toxic effects on humans. Saul collaborated with the TecnaTox research center at the University of Tarragona on the analysis of microplastics in human and pig intestine samples and monitored microplastic contamination levels in edible mollusks along the Mediterranean coasts. Additionally, he optimized analytical methods for analyzing pesticides in food matrices and participated in environmental monitoring campaigns. Three of his papers are currently under review in international journals.

Work Experience:

Saul Santini has held several positions in the field of education and chemical safety. Since November 2023, he has been working as a Secondary School Teacher at Istituto Superiore A. Checchi, where he teaches Chemical Science and Technology. He is also a Worker Safety Trainer at ITT Marco Polo, providing safety training for students undertaking the PCTO route and assigned a medium risk. Additionally, Saul works as a Chemical Risk Consultant at a chemical materials production company, where he updates the company’s Risk Assessment Document. He also serves as a Risk Assessment Document Auditor for a social cooperative, reviewing their documents across different territorial sectors.

Training:

Saul Santini completed his Master’s Degree in Chemical Sciences at the University of Florence, Italy, from September 2015 to July 2017. His dissertation, titled “Legacy and new persistent organic pollutants in Somniosus Microcephalus from NE Greenland,” earned him a final grade of 110/110 cum laude. Prior to his master’s, Saul obtained his Bachelor’s Degree in Chemistry from the University of Florence, from September 2011 to April 2015. His dissertation focused on the investigation of pH and phosphate species in PAAm hydrogels, and he achieved a final grade of 102/110. Saul also holds a Diploma in Industrial Chemistry from ITIS Tullio Buzzi, Prato, Italy, where he studied from September 2005 to July 2011, achieving a final grade of 75/100. Additionally, Saul participated in an Erasmus+ Traineeship at Universitat Rovira i Virgili in Tarragona, Spain, from September 2017 to March 2018. Under the supervision of Prof. M.
