Dr. PeiJian Shi pursued a Ph.D. in Ferrous Metallurgy at Shanghai University, Shanghai, China, from September 2016 to June 2021, under the supervision of Prof. Yunbo Zhong. Prior to his doctoral studies, he completed a Bachelor of Science in Materials Science and Engineering at Jinan University, Jinan, China, from September 2012 to June 2016. Dr. Shi also served as a Post-doctoral co-supervisor at City University of Hong Kong, Hong Kong, China, from October 2016 under the guidance of Prof. C.T. Liu and Prof. Yuntian Zhu.

Research Experience:

Dr. PeiJian Shi specializes in the development of prototype materials for critical applications, with a focus on high-entropy alloys, Al and Cu alloys, and cryogenic steels. His work involves microstructure design through thermomechanical processing, directional solidification, and bioinspired hierarchical structures. He conducts mechanical characterizations using various tests such as tensile, compressive, impact, nano-indentation, three-point bending, and LUR tests. Dr. Shi’s research also delves into deformation and failure mechanisms, studying edge/screw dislocations, forest/GND dislocations, mechanical twins, and martensitic transitions. He employs multi-scale research methods including high-energy in-situ synchrotron diffraction, microscopy techniques like SEM, EBSD, TEM, STEM, and HAADF/LAADF-STEM to study materials at different length scales.

Dr. PeiJian Shi has presented his research on materials science and technology at various international conferences. In 2023, he participated in the FEMS EUROMAT conference in Frankfurt am Main, Germany, where he delivered a Highlight Lecture titled “Hierarchical crack buffering triples ductility in eutectic herringbone high-entropy alloys,” showcasing his work on innovative material designs. In 2019, he was a speaker at the Gordon Research Conference on Heterogeneous Materials in Hong Kong, China, where he gave an Invited Presentation on “Enhanced strength–ductility in hetero-structured high-entropy alloys,” highlighting his contributions to the field.
