Professional Experience:
Hassan Osman Hassan has been volunteering with Verdens Skove (Forest of the World, Denmark) in the Global Biodiversity Team since February 2023. In this role, they review and analyze the Global Biodiversity Framework and EU biodiversity targets, conduct assessments of existing biodiversity programs, research biodiversity credit/offset, and participate in drafting biodiversity and nature laws. Additionally, Hassan has been a member of the Forest Institutions and International Development (FIID) Research Group at the Chair of Tropical and International Forestry, Faculty of Environmental Sciences, Technische Universität Dresden since December 2022. In this position, they design qualitative and quantitative research surveys, conduct data collection and analysis, and contribute to scientific article development and publication.
Education:
Hassan Osman Hassan pursued dual Master’s degrees from September 2020 to November 2022. They completed an MSc. in Forest and Livelihoods at the University of Copenhagen, Denmark, focusing on courses like Climate change and forestry, Participatory natural resources governance, Applied economics of forest and nature, and Project management. Simultaneously, they completed an MSc. in Tropical Forest Management at Technische Universität Dresden, Germany, with coursework in landscape restoration, Urban forestry, Research planning, Communication, and conflict management. Their thesis for this program explored Forest management institutional responses to disease outbreaks, focusing on the Ebola virus disease and the COVID-19 pandemic in Uganda. Prior to their Master’s degrees, Hassan earned a BSc. in Water and Environmental Sanitation (1st class honors) from the University of Cape Coast, Ghana, from August 2014 to May 2018. Their studies included Environmental impact assessment, Safety in the chemical lab, Environmental chemistry, Water quality, Public health, Water resources management, Solid waste management, Engineering hydrology, and Project management. Their undergraduate thesis was on the Assessment of Kakum River Quality within Cape Coast-catchment Area. Hassan’s educational journey began with a West African Secondary School Certificate in General Science from Komfo Anokye Senior High School, Ghana, covering subjects such as English, Core maths, Biology, Physics, Chemistry, and Elective maths, obtained from October 2009 to May 2013.
Awards:
Hassan Osman Hassan has received several awards in recognition of their academic achievements and contributions. These include the School of Physical Science Deans Award from the University of Cape Coast, as well as being recognized as the Best student in BSc. Water and Sanitation for the 2015/2016 and 2016/2017 academic years. They have also received the Water and Sanitation Department Excellence Award and were named the Best graduating student in BSc. Water and Sanitation at the 51st Congregation of the University of Cape Coast. Additionally, they received the Very Rev. Professor D.K Doodo Award for being the Best graduating student in Water Quality at the University Of Cape Coast’s 51st congregation in September 2018.
Training:
Hassan Osman Hassan has participated in various training workshops and programs to enhance their skills and knowledge. They attended a Project Management Workshop organized by Technology Without Borders (Teog) from 10th to 14th January 2017. In February 2018, they took part in a Master Plan Workshop organized by UCC Water and Sanitation Unit in Ghana. Additionally, Hassan attended a Field Workshop on WASH organized by the WASH Youth Network in Ghana from 12th to 13th March 2020. They also participated in a Safety workshop organized by Golden Star Resources-Environmental Dept. on 19th February 2020. Most recently, Hassan attended the World Water Congress organized by the International Water Association in Copenhagen from 11th to 15th September 2022.
