Professional Experience:

Ms. Sarah Khan has been serving as a Senior Associate at CSTEP in Bengaluru since June 2022, focusing on Energy System Modelling. She led a pioneering collaboration with the International Sustainable Energy Foundation (ISEF) as the Principal Investigator for a net-zero modelling project aimed at steering India’s building sector towards a sustainable future. She developed a robust system dynamics model to analyze energy consumption, materials, and construction practices, identifying innovative low-carbon pathways that contribute to India’s ambitious net-zero target. Additionally, Ms. Khan played a crucial role in a collaborative project with the International Institute of Sustainable Development (IISD) on budgeting for net-zero electric mobility in India. She conducted stakeholder consultations and contributed to the analysis of India’s support for electric mobility, identifying gaps and proposing innovative funding mechanisms to accelerate the country’s transition to clean energy. Ms. Khan has also been actively involved in Bloomberg’s net-zero sub-projects for India, contributing to the development of economy-wide net-zero scenarios for the transport sector. At Energise 2023, organized by the Alliance for Energy Efficient Economy, held in Goa from November 1-4, 2023, she presented a paper titled “Decarbonising India’s residential sector: Insight and pathways from a system dynamics model.” Sarah participated in “Innovating for Transport and Energy Systems,” part of the UK-India Innovation Net Zero Initiative, organized by Energy Systems Catapult and the Indian Institute of Science in March 2023 in Bengaluru. She also participated in a model dissemination workshop, Indian Zero Carbon Energy Pathways (IDEEA), organized by The Sustra Group, Department of Management Studies, Indian Institute of Science (IISc), in collaboration with the Environmental Defense Fund (EDF) and SusPoT-Center for Sustainability, and Indian Institute of Technology, Roorkee, in February 2023 in Bengaluru. Sarah presented a paper titled “System Dynamics Model of Interaction between Transportation Sector and Air Pollution for an Urban Region” at the 9th Civil Engineering Conference in the Asian Region (CECAR9): Sustainable Design and Eco Technologies for Infrastructure, organized by The Institution of Civil Engineers, held in Goa from September 21-23, 2022.
