Dr. Mihaela Tanase-Opedal has held various positions in research and science. Since 2020, she has been working as a Senior Research Scientist at RISE PFI in Trondheim, Norway. Prior to this role, she worked at the same institution as a Research Scientist from 2011 to 2020. Additionally, in June 2008, she took on a summer job at Norske Skog Saugbrugs Halden in Norway, where she was involved in a project focusing on mechanical bleaching.

From 2021 to 2024, she served as the Work Package (WP) leader for the project titled “Green wax inhibitors and production chemicals based on lignin (LignoWax),” funded by the Research Council of Norway. In my research, I have focused on the development and application of electrochemical methods for the determination of various compounds in pharmaceutical formulations and environmental samples. One of my studies involved the potentiometric determination of oxybutynin hydrochloride in pharmaceutical formulations using modified carbon paste electrodes, which was published in the Indian Journal of Chemistry in 2020 (Indian Journal of Chemistry. 59: 324-332, 2020). Another research endeavor explored the electrochemical performance of screen-printed sensors for the potentiometric determination of anticholinergic oxybutynin hydrochloride in pharmaceutical formulations and biological fluids, as documented in the Egypt.J.Chem, 63(5): 1999 – 2009, 2020. Additionally, I have contributed to the development of modified carbon paste ion-selective electrodes for the determination of Cr(III) ions in aqueous solutions and real samples using tetragonal zirconia nanoparticles, as published in RSC Advances in 2023 (RSC Advances, 13, 11201, 2023). Furthermore, my research has extended to the fabrication and characterization of mullite nano-ceramic materials for use in carbon paste ion-selective electrodes to estimate carcinogenic Cd(II) ions in real and human samples, which was published in the Microchemical Journal in 2023 (Microchemical Journal 190 (2023) 108623). These studies represent my commitment to advancing the field of analytical chemistry through innovative research and the application of novel methodologies. 🧪📚

Additionally, I’ve successfully invented novel catalyst preparation methods, reflected in multiple granted patents. By modulating the coordination environment of novel catalysts, I achieved selective hydrogenation of functionalized nitroarenes, making critical breakthroughs in chemical reaction kinetics and phase behavior in supercritical CO2. This body of research not only profoundly impacts academia but also provides valuable insights for practical industrial production and green energy development. My work showcases unwavering commitment to academic excellence and practical application, making substantial contributions to research, development, innovation, and extension activities.
